Day 363 \/ 728 \u2013 \u00a0This is what I would say is closer to my “style” than I’ve been able to create in the last several months. \u00a0At least, in my “fields” work. \u00a0I’m on the road, driving from San Francisco to Denver, and I have the luxury of time right now. \u00a0I get to pull over wherever I want, whenever I want, and shoot whatever I want. \u00a0I don’t have to be anywhere for a while. \u00a0I can get out in the side roads a bit. \u00a0I can do it on a whim, make that snap decision to go down a different road. \u00a0I haven’t had that in a while. \u00a0The main difference\u00a0is, I’m doing the driving.<\/p>\n

Not that I couldn’t ask Meg to pull over, and it’s not like she didn’t offer. \u00a0But there is something about being alone that gives you a little more time to think, a little more space to feel, a bit more room to work. \u00a0Someone telling you to take all the time you need isn’t the same as simply taking the time on your own. \u00a0The space changes. \u00a0Your attention is shared. \u00a0There is a bit of pressure to make this shot work. \u00a0It’s been great having someone along for the ride, and there is no one I would rather be with for a long drive (or a short one) than Meg, but sometimes, you have to make some space. \u00a0For me, and hopefully for lots of photographers, feeling something about what you are shooting is paramount. \u00a0Good shots don’t happen without it.<\/p>\n

I probably sound like some tortured artist, who can’t work without solitude and loneliness. \u00a0Not at all. \u00a0It’s just that sometimes, you have to be out in the world, bored out of your mind, with nothing but the sound of the road, to really notice the things around you. \u00a0It’s just different.<\/p>\n

Mind you, without Meg, the shots of Yosemite wouldn’t have happened. \u00a0Without her, the shot with both the upper and lower falls<\/a> wouldn’t exist, which is one I really like. \u00a0My nature stuff wouldn’t exist. \u00a0And really, without her, none of this would have happened. \u00a0None of these shots would exist. \u00a0This project wouldn’t have happened, and I certainly wouldn’t have gone to all these places. \u00a0She was\u00a0behind me the whole way, and always has been. \u00a0I don’t know a lot, but I do know this: find someone who is on your side and stick with them.<\/p>\n

So as I wrap this up, this project is for her. \u00a0It started out for me, but in the end, it’s for her. \u00a0People say it all the time, but I truly mean it: I couldn’t have done it without her.<\/p>\n
